White House crypto meeting set for today as SEC and CFTC advance new rules

The White House is expected to meet crypto executives as US regulators advance separate digital asset initiatives.

White House crypto meeting set for today as SEC and CFTC advance new rules

President Donald Trump is, according to reports, about to host crypto executives in the White House itself on Wednesday, moving the policy around digital assets to the front burner of his administration as legislation is on the way in Congress.

The private gathering comes during a busy week for US crypto regulation, as the SEC proposed new rules on Tuesday, while the CFTC will hold a separate public meeting on Thursday.

Trump to host crypto executives at White House

Trump is expected to make remarks alongside technology leaders at the White House on August 19, according to a Reuters report.

Among the other guests that will be there and are said to be attending it are believed to be the likes of CFTC Chair Michael Selig, SEC Chair Paul Atkins, and White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt, that will probably be accompanied by crypto executives and industry trade groups.

The main priority, the CLARITY Act, which would make it clear who does what when it comes to the SEC or CFTC in overseeing digital assets, still sits in limbo in US Congress.

As legislation moves at a snail’s pace, both regulators stride ahead with rule-making of their own.

On Tuesday, August 18, the SEC officially released new cryptocurrency fund-raising regulations. They must conform to new regulations, with fundraising up to $75 million in 12 months.

The plan could also help some tokens to move away from being categorized as securities after projects complete the work promised to investors.

CFTC meeting follows on Thursday

After the White House meeting, attention will then move to the CFTC on August 20.

The regulator will hold the first meeting of its Innovation Advisory Committee under its current structure, and unlike Wednesday’s White House gathering, the CFTC event has a public agenda.

Discussions are expected to cover crypto regulation, prediction markets, and artificial intelligence, bringing together representatives from digital asset companies, traditional finance, and technology.

Final Summary

  • Trump is set to host crypto executives and industry representatives at the White House on August 19.
  • This meeting comes between two important events: the SEC proposal about cryptocurrencies and discussion scheduled with the CFTC for Thursday.
