Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP memecoin crashes 98% in minutes – What went wrong?

Sniper bots were blamed, yet thin liquidity gave them the battlefield. Who controlled those conditions?

Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP memecoin crashes 98% in minutes – What went wrong?

Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP memecoin turned into a brutal launch. The memecoin lost 98% within minutes on Wednesday, the 9th of September.

The price initially spiked above $300 before liquidity vanished. As a result, the memecoin plummeted toward $4.36 during its opening collapse.

Trading continued after the sell-off, ultimately dropping below $1 and trading near $0.75. Heavy activity around the initial surge shows the sharpest repricing happened while early participation was still concentrated.

Who profited from LAPTOP’s crash?

Bubblemaps data revealed how unevenly the collapse affected traders. Of 15,206 wallets, 11,311 lost less than $1,000. Another 840 wallets suffered larger losses.

Meanwhile, only 363 traders earned above $1,000. This included ten wallets that cleared $100,000.

This imbalance indicates earlier exiters captured most available liquidity while later buyers absorbed losses. Before the damage from the day of launch can lead to a stable market, LAPTOP now needs sustained buying and deeper liquidity

All in all, this represents a continued negative trend of politically branded memecoins following TRUMP and MELANIA memecoins.

Celebrity recognition can attract instant demand, but it rarely guarantees sustainable liquidity or fair distribution.

Wintermute sales add pressure on LAPTOP

Beyond the launch-day losses, wallet activity shows how weak liquidity impacted LAPTOP’s collapse. A Wintermute-tagged wallet reportedly received 2.5 million LAPTOP from the project team, adding selling pressure.

Soon afterward, it sold 466,255 tokens for about $2.08M at an average price of $4.47.

Meanwhile, the 466,255 tokens were transferred using Kyber as well as entering into Wintermute’s hot wallet, where they totaled 200,745 LAPTOP tokens valued at approximately $339,260.

These sales followed LAPTOP’s initial plunge. Hence, the data did not prove Wintermute caused the crash.

Even so, thin Aerodrome and Uniswap pools may have magnified each sale through slippage.

Foundation responds to LAPTOP crash

LAPTOP’s tumultuous initial launch has continued with another twist. This was after the Foundation confirmed that their X account had been suspended.

According to the Foundation, while it works to restore the account, updates will continue through Medium, keeping communication open.

Importantly, the Foundation said it was not stepping away from LAPTOP. Instead, it blamed the launch swings on sniper bots overwhelming limited liquidity after trading opened at $0.05.

Now, the team plans to deploy 4 million tokens, or 0.40% of supply, across Aerodrome pools.

In turn, this reduces the total amount of LAPTOP token supply by 1% within one week. This should help to decrease the slippage and selling pressures that were experienced during the early days of trading.

However, deeper pools and calmer trading must follow before confidence returns.

Final Summary

  • Hunter Biden’s memecoin LAPTOP crashed 98% after launch as thin liquidity and concentrated early trading amplified selling.
  • LAPTOP’s planned liquidity injection and 1% token burn now face a clear test in restoring deeper trading and market confidence.
