Tether backs Saber Money’s payment expansion across Asia and the Gulf

Saber plans to use fresh backing for licenses, banking partnerships, and business payments, but has not named its next markets or expansion timetable.

Tether backs Saber Money’s payment expansion across Asia and the Gulf

Saber Money, which facilitates international payments in stablecoins, has accepted investments from both Tether and CMCC Global’s Titan Fund. Saber announced the funding on October 14 without disclosing the amount or either investor’s ownership stake.

That money will fuel expansion across Asia-Pacific and the Gulf, including local license and banking partnerships.

Funding targets local payment access

Saber mentions wanting to expand into the business payments arena, including supplier bills and moving money internationally for companies.

In addition, it has existing routes which it says it will strengthen.

For businesses, the practical question is whether a service can deliver payments in the currency and location a recipient needs.

A supplier awaiting a bank deposit, for example, needs more than a completed stablecoin transfer. Currency conversion, local banking access, and compliance checks remain part of the process.

Saber reports growth, but details remain limited

In the past nine months, Saber’s payment volumes grew more than six times. In addition, it reports that it processes billions of dollars in payments in more than 40 countries, and that more than 90% of all of its payments are processed in under one minute. This information has been provided by the company itself.

The announcement does not provide an exact payment-volume total or explain how it measures processing time.

What the investment means for Tether

In Tether’s case, Saber represents another investment in a company that seeks everyday payment opportunities with stablecoins.

Whether the funding produces wider access or lower costs will depend on implementation. New payment routes, completed approvals, and clearly measured customer outcomes would offer stronger evidence than the investment announcement alone.

Final Summary

  • There was no information as to how much capital Tether and the Titan Fund invested, but it is believed that the funds will be used to expedite Saber Money’s planned expansion across Asia-Pacific and the Gulf countries.
  • Saber will apply for various licenses and sign with numerous bank partners on its path to expansion.
