Japan and Chainlink's relationship may be taking a new step forward.

Japan taps Chainlink’s CCIP to accelerate tokenization — Details

Is Chainlink quietly becoming a bridge between DeFi and TradFi?

There is no doubt that the RWA market has become one of the fastest-growing areas in crypto. According to RWA.xyz, total real-world assets’ tokenized value hit $39.2 billion in October 2026. That’s up from approximately $21 billion at the beginning of the year, growing by nearly 87% in less than 10 months.

However, Chainlink’s CCIP is yet to fully capitalize on the RWA market’s rapid growth. As can be seen from the graph below, CCIP’s total distributed asset value has dropped to only $322 million, accounting for only 0.8% of the $40 billion of the RWA market.

This proves that there is a gap between the growth rate of tokenized assets and CCIP adoption right now.

Against this backdrop, to say that Chainlink is a rising bridge between TradFi and DeFi seems premature. Especially given the relatively small role of CCIP within the overall RWA market.

However, what if the gap has less to do with the Chainlink’s network fundamentals, and more to do with the market underestimating the importance of the LINK token in connecting TradFi platforms with decentralized oracle networks? Notably, this is where Japan’s recent move begins to add weight to this narrative.

In a post on X, Chainlink announced that Pacific Meta has entered a strategic partnership with the network to enable institutional tokenization in Japan. The company has selected CCIP as its “preferred solution for cross-chain interoperability,” thus allowing it to port tokenized assets between blockchains.

Naturally, the question is whether Japan’s rising interest in institutional tokenization can catalyze the adoption boost that Chainlink [LINK] needs to turn its cross-chain infrastructure into a powerful catalyst for LINK’s long-term value.

Japan’s banking shift could open new doors for Chainlink

The primary reason why the news is significant is due to Japan’s growing crypto adoption.

For context, Japan’s crypto market has been developing throughout the course of this year. In June 2026, for instance, the country’s three largest banking groups – MUFG, SMBC, and Mizuho – announced their intention to launch a shared yen stablecoin for business payments.

Fast-forward to present day, and all three banks have completed a joint trial of stablecoin-based cross-border payments. With major TradFi players exploring the adoption of stablecoins, the Japanese crypto landscape has the potential to witness a wave of fresh institutional interest.

In this context, Pacific Meta’s partnership with Chainlink is perfectly timed.

This is where the rising RWA market comes into play.

As discussed above, RWAs have become one of the fastest-growing fields in crypto, and the fact that Japanese banks are considering using stablecoins for payments means that tokenized assets will soon be able to attract more institutional capital, thus creating new cross-chain infrastructure opportunities.

In this regard, worth noting that Chainlink’s CCIP (Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol) can benefit from the increasing need for transferring tokenized assets from one blockchain to another. While it may take some time before CCIP becomes a bridge, greater institutional adoption in Japan will enable Chainlink to gain a stronger foothold on the market.

Final Summary

  • CCIP holds just 0.8% of the $40 billion RWA market, showing that Chainlink has room to grow.

  • Japan’s growing interest in stablecoins and tokenization could boost CCIP adoption and strengthen Chainlink’s role in connecting TradFi, DeFi.
