Ripple wins final OCC approval for National Trust Bank – How RLUSD benefits
Ripple joins other crypto firms pursuing national trust bank charters.
On the 26th of October, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) granted their final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank (RNTB), allowing Ripple [XRP] to establish a federally supervised national trust bank.
This much-awaited approval has brought Ripple’s proposed trust bank under federal supervision. At the same time, it has added another layer of regulatory oversight to its operations. This follows the OCC’s conditional approval in December 2025.
Remarking on the same, Ripple’s CEO Brad Garlinghouse said,
We’ve always said crypto and banks work better together—this is what that looks like. Real innovation, real accountability, federal oversight. The revolution isn’t happening outside the system. It’s happening from within it.
Is this good news for Ripple?
Now as RNTB has gained access to the playground, its key responsibilities include managing the segregated reserves backing Ripple USD (RLUSD) and acting as collateral trustee for RLUSD holders.
At the same time, it’ll also be responsible for providing fiduciary digital asset custody services that would allow institutions to hold digital assets through a federally supervised entity.
As a result, this could help Ripple serve businesses that require regulated infrastructure for payments, trading, and treasury management. However, in no sense does the charter automatically make RNTB a full-service commercial bank or authorize it to offer every banking service.
In fact, despite the OOC grant, RLUSD will continue to be issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company (SCTC), a limited-purpose trust company regulated by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS).
In other words, RLUSD now benefits from an additional layer of federal oversight through the trust bank structure.
The crypto community applauds the approval
As expected, the crypto community also celebrated this move, with the Blockchain Association taking to X and noting,

Echoing similar sentiments, Jack McDonald, SVP of Stablecoins at Ripple, added,

What’s more?
The approval comes as RLUSD, launched in December 2024, has reportedly reached a market capitalization of $2.5 billion and is being used across Ripple’s payments infrastructure and as collateral within Ripple Prime.

That said, Ripple is not the only company to receive OCC approval. According to previous reports by AMBCrypto, Revolut, Coinbase, Paxos, BitGo, Ripple, and Circle have all gotten the green light for National Trust Bank.
