Aave crypto draws $125M to Arc—but 99.5% sits unused

USDC deposits on Aave’s Arc market have climbed to almost $125 million, although less than $600,000 has been borrowed.

Aave crypto draws $125M to Arc—but 99.5% sits unused

Aave’s new lending market on the Arc network has attracted almost $125 million in USDC. However, borrowers have taken out less than $600,000, leaving nearly all that money unused.

That imbalance shows that putting money into a fresh market is not creating an actual lending business. The test for Aave is to see if demand from the borrowers can catch up.

USDC deposits rise rapidly on Aave V4

Aavescan data from September 18 shows around $124.8 million in USDC supplied by users to Aave V4’s Arc market.

A sharp increase from the $75.8 million one day earlier and the $24.5 million in excess reserves on September 16. That means roughly a 65 per cent jump in a day and more than a fivefold increase since the market began attracting excess liquidity in recent times.

Earlier reports published on 17 September placed deposits at roughly $76 million, with almost no borrowing. Those figures are stale now, but the broader problem they highlighted remains.

The most recent reading shows the rise being even heavier, having risen to around $568,300. This increase from the reading when borrowing reached as low as some $73,400 on the midnight of September 18 suggests there may be some sign of a demand appearing now.

However, despite this, borrowers are still only utilizing 0.46% of the available USDC; more or less 99.5% remains untouched.

Why unused deposits matter

Aave connects people who want to lend their crypto with those who want to borrow it. Depositors generally earn interest from the fees paid by borrowers.

When borrowing demand is weak, there is little interest to distribute. The Arc market currently displays a supply return of 0.00%, while its borrowing rate is around 0.02%.

Perhaps, all in all, the $125 million deposit is not as remarkable as first glance might suggest. The cash is there, yet it is not generating real lending or returns for suppliers in either case.

Still, the market is only in its earliest days. Lending markets need to have money supplied for borrowers to become confident in using them. The surge in deposits might therefore sow the seeds for future market activity, not an evidence of a lasting problem.

For now, the pace of borrowing, not the amount deposited, will be the clearest measure of whether Aave’s expansion onto Arc is gaining practical adoption.

Final Summary

  • USDC deposits increased to roughly $124.8m, and borrowing remained below $600k.
  • Utilization is just 0.46%, providing depositors with an effectively 0% interest return.
