Avalanche price nears $12 – Can the Helicon upgrade propel AVAX higher?
AVAX surged 17% as Helicon anticipation and whale deployment strengthened demand ahead of $12.
Avalanche [AVAX] experienced a price surge of 16.91% to $11.23 at press time, as the Helicon upgrade anticipation and stronger trading activity supported its breakout.
The rally arrived one day before the scheduled Helicon upgrade on the 22nd of September, giving the expansion a clear fundamental catalyst. Additionally, the trading volume surged 29.88% to $1.4 billion, suggesting improved participation during the 24-hour move.
Reportedly, the Helicon upgrade will reduce the staking unlock times from several weeks to only 48 hours. This flexibility could make staking more attractive to larger investors seeking easier access to capital.
Meanwhile, the broader Layer 1 rotation also supported the price surge as capital returned toward key blockchain infrastructure tokens. AVAX’s price advance aligned with both sector rotation and expectations surrounding a major network upgrade.
In fact, the timing strengthened the rally’s fundamental backdrop instead of leaving the price appreciation dependent solely on speculative activity.
Whales take AVAX beyond exchanges
Furthermore, large AVAX movements followed the rally as investors repositioned substantial capital across on-chain markets and exchanges. Reportedly, more than $3.5 million in AVAX was moved across Tier-1 exchanges within 30 minutes.
Upbit moved 140,000 AVAX, valued roughly at $1.59 million, across four different wallets, while Binance internally shifted 148,600 AVAX, worth nearly $1.68 million.
Additionally, a whale withdrew 16,000 AVAX, valued at around $180,000, from Binance, before wrapping those tokens into WAVAX for on-chain deployment.
The whale withdrawal moved AVAX away from immediate exchange-side liquidity, unlike the reported exchange redistribution. This activity therefore reinforced the demand narrative as the Helicon upgrade approached.
Can bulls carry AVAX toward $12?
On the daily-timeframe chart, AVAX’s technical structure changed rapidly after the price cleared the $8.00 resistance, establishing $9.50 as lower-timeframe support during the rally. Notably, buyers pushed the token towards the $11.80 price level, bringing the major $12 resistance into immediate focus.
Subsequently, the price later pulled back towards $11.11 but remained well above the newly established $9.50 support. The pullback therefore had not yet disrupted the broader bullish technical structure.
Also noteworthy, the bulls controlled directional strength as AVAX approached its immediate resistance. Looking at the DMI indicator, the +DI signal had surged to 52.23 as of writing, compared with the -DI signal at just 5.96 as of press time.
Notably, the ADX indicator stood at 39.97, confirming considerable strong directional conditions behind the price appreciation.
Continued support above the $9.50 level would therefore preserve room for another $12-resistance challenge. A breakout above this level would extend the rally, but losing the $9.50 support would trigger a deeper structural correction toward lower support zones.

Downside liquidity threatens a deeper retest
AVAX’s Binance Liquidation Heatmap introduced the clearest near-term risk after its rapid price appreciation. Notably, dense liquidation liquidity accumulated beneath the prevailing market price, particularly between the $10.90 and $10.50 zone.
Furthermore, another notable liquidity cluster developed around the $10 area, extending the potential downside liquidity pools. These liquidity clusters could likely attract price in case the buying pressure weakens around the $12 zone.
Such a liquidity sweep, however, would initially represent a pullback within the broader upside structure. This is because Avalanche still had its lower-timeframe $9.50 support below those liquidity clusters.
Hence, the altcoin could grab the downside liquidity without invalidating the bullish structure immediately. A significant risk can only emerge if selling pressure extends through the $9.50 support level.

Final Summary
- Helicon upgrade anticipation and Layer 1 rotation strengthened demand behind AVAX’s 17% rally.
- Downside liquidity could support fresh buying before AVAX attempts a breakout above $12.
