Blur’s website closure – Blend borrowers have until November 12 to ‘repay their loans’
Blur’s frontend deprecation raises questions about the future of Ethereum NFT trading.
In an unexpected turn of events, Blur, known as the largest marketplace for trading Ethereum NFTs for so long, has announced plans to wind down certain operations.
Effective on the 12th of November, 2026, Blur will go through the deprecation of its website frontend.
What will happen after November 2026?
So post the aforementioned date, the existing Blur website interface will not remain available for its usual marketplace functions. However, this does not mean that the underlying Blur marketplace protocol will shut down completely.
In fact, the protocol will continue operating on-chain, wherein its smart contracts and blockchain-based functionality will remain in place. Additionally, users may still be able to interact with the protocol through alternative interfaces, with the latter yet to be decided.
Loan matching also comes to an end
Moreover, Blur also announced that Blend (Blur’s NFT lending protocol) will stop matching new loans on the 12th of November, 2026. The team added,
Borrowers have until then to repay their loans or allow them to default. After this date, we will provide a frontend tool to help users withdraw their assets from Blend.
Therefore, existing borrowers must repay their loans before the deadline or face the possibility of default, according to the announcement.
The $BLUR token echoes the shutdown tremor
Yet despite all these major changes, Blur has clarified that its native token, $BLUR, will continue to control the protocol’s fee switch. This coincided with BLUR trading at $0.0134 after a drop of 28.8% in the past 24 hours and a year-to-date drop of 52%.
Well, Blur is not the only one sailing this sea. Abstract, Ethereum‘s [ETH] Layer-2 network, has also announced plans to shut down by December 2026.
Still, things are not that messy yet, as, according to a recent report by AMBCrypto, only nine crypto exchanges and trading platforms announced or completed shutdowns this year, the lowest annual count in at least eight years.
Final Summary
- Besides the website frontend shutdown, the underlying Blur marketplace protocol will continue to run as is.
- BLUR’s price was trading at $0.0134 after a drop of 28.8% in the past 24 hours.
