XRP technical analysis: Stagnant price creates investor quandary

Over the past year, XRP has experienced significant buying and selling pressure. The Ripple price prediction for 2024 prompts a closer look at the recent stagnant movement and what could be its aftermath. The asset started its journey by facing significant selling pressure at $0.47, which drove it to bottom out briefly at the lowest support of $0.45 in July. 

This trajectory reversed when Ripple's partial victory against the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) triggered a substantial mid-month rally. This drove XRP to a trading high of $0.93, with $0.74 becoming the new resistance level.

Despite this, the market faced another downturn, leading the price to drop below $0.60 in mid-August. Remarkably, the bulls successfully maintained support at $0.45 to halt further declines.

The market continued to trade sideways, with XRP fluctuating between $0.74 and $0.45. In mid-October, buyers regrouped to elevate the price. Although XRP briefly touched peak resistance in mid-November, momentum soon waned. Efforts were made to keep the price above the midline of $0.60 until January 2024, but persistent bearish pressure eventually broke this level.

A similar pattern was observed in February, which faltered in April. While this higher time frame (HTF) range has lasted over ten months, XRP formed a smaller range between $0.53 and  $0.47 since mid-April.

With bears having the upper hand, AMBCrypto noted that XRP's price plummeted to a two-month low of $0.49 during the June 7 trading session. The altcoin last reached this price level on April 17. The decline was triggered by market concerns following reports that Ripple sold 150 million XRP that day. At the time of writing, the altcoin traded closely to the short-term lower range limit at $0.48. 
 

If declines continue breaking the current support, XRP can fall back to $0.45. If this level is flipped bearishly, the asset can return to $0.36. Meanwhile, the demand for XRP continues to grow despite the underwhelming price action. AMBCrypto reported that the holders increased by 100,000 within the first ten days of June. 

Additionally, the fear and greed index was 34%, indicating that the market was in a fear phase at press time. Historically, when the metric reaches this level, it suggests the potential for a price increase. Thus, the bearish predictions might be invalidated if the current conditions persist.

Consequently, XRP might surge towards $0.60 in June before facing another potential rejection. If the asset stabilizes at this level, it could pave the way for a stronger rise toward $0.80, though this may not occur in the short term. With a sustained uptrend, reaching $1 could be possible in 2024. However, this critical milestone might lead to a struggle, and if rejected, further declines could follow.

• XRP’s trading volume began at a moderate level. With each pullback, volume decreased, although it recovered during bull runs. Notably, the late February rally saw a significant increase in volume, indicating rising investor confidence. However, as the price fell, the volume declined as well.
• The Awesome Oscillator (AO) fluctuated around the zero line, turning positive when the price moved above the midline. Since late April, the indicator has retained negative values.  
• At press time, it registered at -0.0637. This marked the lowest value observed over the last year, hinting at a growing bearish presence.
• After a substantial expansion in July, the Bollinger Bands started converging as the price continued to be range-bound. Meanwhile, the 20-week Moving Average (MA) alternated between resistance or support, but the candles remained close to it. 
• From early April, the candles have remained below the 20 MA. The proximity to the lower band has also triggered a slight expansion, highlighting the selling pressure.
