dogwifhat’s 22% rally faces selling pressure – Can WIF defend $0.23?

Will dogwifhat's post-rally profit-taking test its breakout strength?

dogwifhat gains 22% as leverage builds: Can WIF sustain its breakout?

dogwifhat [WIF] pumped 22.15% at press time, as trading activity around the memecoin sector expanded sharply, bringing attention to whether buyers could extend the rally towards $0.30.

Alongside the price appreciation, WIF’s trading activity accelerated, with its spot volume climbing 88.81% to roughly $136 million.

The derivatives markets also joined the rally as the derivative volume expanded 81.01% to $301.57 million as futures activity accelerated behind the rally. Therefore, this synchronized increase distinguished the recent price appreciation from a thinly traded price spike.

However, the expanding participation introduced greater sensitivity to shifts in derivatives positioning as WIF approached a higher resistance level. Maintaining the elevated trading activity, therefore, remained crucial as the memecoin attempted to establish support above its latest breakout zone.

Fresh leverage follows the price higher

Besides the increasing activity across all markets, the Open Interest (OI) also rose 22.89% to $104.25 million as of writing, as traders increased their exposure amid the price rally.

Importantly, the expansion accompanied the rising prices instead of developing during a price decline. The fresh positioning, therefore, became evident as dogwifhat strengthened, expanding the leveraged participation behind the price recovery.

Also, the OI grew considerably slower than the derivatives’ volume, which surged 81.01% within the same period.

Such a divergence implied increased trading activity without an equally aggressive accumulation of outstanding leverage. Hence reducing the possibility that leverage alone drove WIF’s entire 22.15% impulse move.

Even so, the higher OI, however, also increased exposure to volatility in case of a sharp price reversal near resistance.

Sellers remain active despite the rally

As per CryptoQuant analytics, WIF’s taker metrics revealed persistent selling beneath the headline price increase, after the stronger participation. At the time of reporting, the Spot Taker CVD indicator remained seller-dominant, highlighting an ongoing selling within the spot market.

Furthermore, the futures Taker CVD also reflected seller-dominant conditions, extending the post-rally selling activity into derivatives markets as well. This timing made profit-taking a plausible trigger as market participants, most probably retailers, responded to the memecoin’s sharp price increase.

Such selling, however, did not automatically invalidate the price breakout after the double-digit expansion. Rather, how WIF reacts to the selling would determine whether the buyers could absorb profit-taking near the breakout zone.

Persistent absorption would help maintain the recovery outlook, while stronger selling pressure could push the memecoin lower to the reclaimed support.

Can WIF turn $0.2337 into support?

On the daily price chart, WIF pushed through the $0.2337 resistance during the impulse upward move after trading below the level repeatedly across the recent sessions.

Notably, the token’s price reached above the $0.25-price level before pulling back towards $0.2411, leaving the $0.2337-level immediately beneath the recent daily move.

Importantly, the price breakout also shifted the $0.2337-level from resistance towards a potential support level in case there is a pullback. Successfully defending that zone would maintain WIF’s higher structure, leaving the $0.30 level as the next possible target.

The RSI added another support element of a continuation, strengthening to 66.80 during the uptrend, as its average sat lower at 53.53.

Importantly, the indicator also remained below the 70 overbought threshold, leaving room for further price expansion before hitting the overbought conditions.
