FriendUP is a platform open to all developers who wish to disengage their applications from technology silos. They use Ethereum and other decentralized technologies to accredit developers to deploy on and integrate.

The technology can be accessed online through a browser tab or installed natively on Linux. The users can log into their Friend accounts online or can access them on the notebooks offline. FriendUp provides a secure and global access to the developers through the personal Friend Cloud computers. It is fully supported by mobile, notebook/PC, television. Later on, VR and audio user interface formats will be supported. The applications are based on JavaScript which launch in sandboxes securely, allowing multiple applications to run on one single device.

Friend Technology

Friend Technology

Friend allows developers to run their applications on the Friend Network, which is a distributed system allowing applications to share data and functionality, and storage among two or many nodes. Their version 1.1 has already been built to run on existing technologies.

Friend’s intention for its next phase includes the development of its server node network utilizing encryption, decentralization, and blockchain technology allowing the user to access their Friend Cloud Computer securely.

The decentralized node network connected to Ethereum will systemize the RESTful APIs for all core functionalities. This function enables the developers to predict results of their applications from the local test network to the Global Friend network. The platform allows users to debug, test and collaborate on projects online. This reduces the developers’ expenses on the infrastructure and license agreements.

This multitasking platform provides zero deployment cost by creating custom free configurations of the various user groups and by making onboarding faster and convenient.

The code is written in C language making it fast and weightless, enabling handle requests on 5G networks at a response rate of <2ms. They allow the users to opt storage according to the services that they prefer. They can connect to Google Drive, Dropbox, Storj, IPFS or IPDB, apart from the built-in storage that Friend provides.

Friend Unifying Platform aims at providing a unifying access to a decentralized world. A Friend Network Token [FRND], an ERC20⁴ compatible token will be created. This token will be assigned many functions within the Friend Network, which can be set in the transaction framework. The Friend Store can be accessed using the FRND token for making any kinds of payments for subscriptions, software, and services. Those who run Friend servers will earn FRND tokens for their bandwidth and resource consumption.

AMBCrypto’s reporting team conducted an interview with the Founder and CEO of FriendUP, Mr. Arne Peder Blix.

How did the idea of developing a network of developers emerge?

Answer:  Decentralization is one of the biggest ideas that circulate in all sectors of the west these days – from economics to politics. It is because people are tired of continuous centralization which removes power from individuals and transfers it to authorities, be they Google, Microsoft or presidents.

Friend was imagined as a solution that grows out of the population of individuals. It is a system that champions privacy, security, and freedom, and it aims to give people the tools to build their own digital future.

The internet has revolutionized how we use computers, and it has placed collaboration in the central stage of our lives. Because of this, it seemed that the time was right to build a new digital service network where developers could work together to form a new service grid for users. Over time, this grid has a chance of freeing users from hegemonies and monopolist players in the market, giving users a choice and opportunity for participation in deciding how the future will be.

By building on the success of Linux, Friend is trying to “do it again” in the cloud.

According to your statistics, the market for mobile applications will be 340 billion USD in 2021, on what basis was this figure calculated?

Answer: Given that the app economy as a whole is still at the relatively early stages of maturity, these numbers are poised for explosive growth. App Annie forecasts that worldwide mobile app store and in-app advertising combined spend will grow at a 20% CAGR to exceed $340 billion in 2021.

What does your technology name ‘Friend’ signify?

Answer: We came up with the name Friend early on. It was natural to pick it from the bunch of proposals we had because it was best suited to cover our principles. We are not fundamentalists, and we are not strictly utilitarian. We want to improve the world, but not force it. We are friendly – and we’re building a technology that reflects that.

A friend does not deceive you. You can rely on a friend. A friend helps you. A friend participates in your life. And this is what our technology does. You need a digital Friend that is yours. In the future, humans and technology will “blend” more.

What do you see as the future for FriendUp platform? How do you plan on achieving the targets?

Answer: A Network Operating System necessarily creates a service network on which it expands into APIs, resource management, and user accounts. User interfaces allow users to interact with it. We have already built a lot of this, but the goal is total autonomy.

We believe that fundamental digital services should be protected so that users could access them on a permanent basis – if the need for these services would remain. Too often, great services are killed once the market trends change – which may not be for the best in the long run. Additionally, censorship and government control often interfere with content and software available online, and we feel there’s a strong argument to protect against that.

We are going to deliver infrastructure that can support an autonomous and permanent service network that developers can deploy to. It will allow the open source community an opportunity to iterate and develop the technology over time, free from interference by authorities, governmental or commercial.

We will achieve our plans, outlined in our roadmap, by organizing an efficient open source team. Funded through our ICO, we will attract great engineers and work in teams on different aspects of the technology. This organization is already underway, and our previous track record of having delivered version 1.0 as well as 1.1 in the recent past shows that we can deliver. Our past experience with participating in open source projects will be put to use, and our team of excellent and experienced managers will make sure the developers have the leadership they need to meet our goals.

Can you give us a deeper insight into the ‘Zero deployment cost’?

Answer: Friends concept of virtual cloud computer templates allows organizations to set up and prepare access to a defined set of:

  • applications,
  • accesses,
  • storage and
  • collaborations spaces

We aim to make it accessible to end users just by providing them with login credentials – no software installation or device preparation needed. As all modern computing platforms come with an internet browser the access to Friend always there.
