From NYSE to London Stock Exchange: Why crypto is forcing everyone to activate 24/7 trading

Tokenized equity volume has hit $8B forcing traditional stock exchanges to reform

London Stock Exchange plans 24/7 access amid competition from crypto platforms: Report

London Stock Exchange (LSE) plans to roll out round-the-clock trading as crypto firms continue to force traditional exchanges to either adapt or remain behind.

According to a Financial Times (FT) report, the LSE will launch a new separate platform for trading that would operate 24/7. The new venue will debut in the first half of 2027, beginning with exchange-traded funds (ETFs) offering exposure to U.S and U.K stocks.

The report linked the pivot to fierce competition from crypto platforms like Coinbase and Kraken that offer 24/7 stock trading via tokenized equities.

For her part, Julia Hoggett, chief executive of the LSE, said the move was aimed at reinforcing London as the “facilitator of domestic and global flow.”

She added,

Increasingly, retail are used to trading when they wish to trade, not simply the hours when markets are open.

During the West Asia crisis in early 2026, everyone turned to Hyperliquid DEX to trade oil and gold as traditional exchanges remained closed.

Elad Lavi, VP at eToro, puts it best,

Crypto opened the mind of retail investors; they want to react to breaking news, and they want to react immediately.

Nasdaq, Cboe Global Markets, and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) also plan to launch extended trading or 24/7 access by the end of 2026.

CME, the world’s largest derivatives platform, got approval for 24/7 crypto trading, but its oil futures hit a roadblock. And with $2 trillion in capital flows at stake, the shift is inevitable.

Tokenized stocks monthly volume hit $8B

As of writing, tokenized stocks, or the on-chain version of traditional equities, have hit 1.8B with $8B in monthly transfer volume.

In fact, the transfer volume was up 31% in the past 30-days while holders have hit 672K, an increase of 75% from the past month. In other words, the tokenized stocks boom is offering a utility, especially to offshore retail investors, and the adoption data confirms the same.

According to Binance Research, crypto platforms are set to drive over $2 trillion in new capital flows from emerging markets seeking exposure to stock markets in the next five years.

About 82% of the world population lacks access to the U.S stock equity market, and brokerages have become a key friction point.

Crypto platforms are now pivoting to become financial ‘super-apps’ to bridge the gap. It remains to be seen whether traditional exchanges will catch up to crypto platforms’ early traction.

Final Summary

  • The London Stock Exchange will launch a separate 24/7 trading platform in H1 2027
  • The increasing global shift comes as crypto firms eye at least $2T in demand for stock market exposure from offshore markets.
