On 25th July, IOTA announced the partnership with AUDI Think Tank. IOTA Foundation put together all its efforts to announce the introduction of a permissionless mobility ecosystem.

It started a one week Google Design Sprint with Audi Denkwerkstatt, which is a Think Tank of Audi. This collaboration was carried out to explore Tangle-based use cases, build a low-level prototype and to gather customer feedback.

IOTA Token official Twitter account tweeted:

“Audi Think Tank & IOTA Foundation explore Tangle-based mobility use cases … #IOTA #Mobility”

OliverHoerr, a Twitterati commented:

“Sounds like a great topic for a Design Sprint. Would be interesting to hear more about the outcome.”

The Audi Denkwerkstatt group comprises of seven Audi representatives who bolster 15 partners from all business territories, levels, and ages. The team helps in creating, approving and executing ideas regarding premium mobility within six months. Their goal is to build up plans of action autonomously or by the participation of others.

In 2012, Audi Think Tank, on their official website, spoke about seeking “intelligent approaches for the mobility of tomorrow”. It stated:

According to its blogs, IOTA believes that this way of working is an excellent route to learn how automakers approach innovation and development. IOTA sees it as a great opportunity to incorporate into a new mobility solution backed by the skills of Audi associates.

IOTA in its blogs states:

“IOTA’s open source protocol is predestined to be an innovation accelerator for any kind of business ideas that rely on trust in data, scalable & safe machine to machine communication & transaction settlement.”

The IOTA Foundation’s mission is to support the development and standardization of new distributed ledger technologies [DLT], including the IOTA Tangle.

The IOTA Tangle is an innovative type of DLT, specifically designed for the Internet of Things [IoT] environment. It is an open-source protocol facilitating novel Machine-to-Machine [M2M] interactions, including secure data transfer, fee-less real-time micropayments, and the collection and dissemination of sensor-based and other types of ‘Oracle’ and other data.

Difference between Tangle and Blockchain

Difference between Tangle and Blockchain

The Tangle and a blockchain are two different platforms based on the same principles. The tangle is built on a Directed Acyclic Graph [DAG]. Instead of building a chain where blocks are added in intervals, the tangle can achieve transactions with no transaction fees.

Tangle is a new concept by IOTA developers. It is a solution to the on-going basic blockchain technology, as it has no mining, no transaction fees and is fast. In Tangle, transactions are linked to each other like a web-tangle. Tangle does not rely on the concept of blocks. Each transaction is verified through Proof-of-Work [PoW] by the originating device.

This technology is still being worked on by the developers at IOTA. The use cases of its technology have been applied to various fields such as digital identity cards, data marketplace, biometrics, and more.

While some Redditors and Twitter users have expressed their excitement, the others have speculated various possibilities of IOTA and Audi.

Raafell, a Redditor said:

“Perhaps since VW is working on full electric vehicles Audi is also doing the same since they are parent companies. #speculation”

RahulKJ, another Redditor said:

“Patience pays off, first porche then volkswagen and now audi. what are you guys doing.. damn”

Junwei Jas, a Twitter user tweeted:

So glad to know TANGLE is working well.. the company deserves more its a not-for-profit org. more to build and more to come. Always happy to see IOTA grow #IOTAandAudi”
