Kraken’s kHYPE expands Hyperliquid utility – Whale stakes entire $159M position

HYPE gains support from Kraken and whale staking.

Kraken's kHYPE expands HYPE utility - Whale stakes entire $159M position

Kraken created a new Hyperliquid-backed token, kHYPE. The creation of KHYPE creates a direct link for users of Hyperliquid [HYPE] to use as collateral in decentralized financial transactions (DeFi) on the platform Ink.

Each kHYPE has the same value as a 1:1 ratio to HYPE, which is being kept in segregated accounts. This eliminates the possibility of an uncollateralized token issuance.

In addition, users are capable of verifying that each mint of kHYPE will remain fully collateralized through publicly verifiable reserve reporting.

Furthermore, since there is no fee associated with redeeming kHYPE, users may be encouraged to move their assets back and forth between Kraken and Ink. Therefore, this will further expand the liquidity existing outside the central marketplace.

However, once kHYPE has been redeemed, kHYPE cannot be utilized again for generating additional Kraken staking rewards. In turn, users are going to need to decide whether they want to earn income or create some type of DeFi-based utility with their holdings.

In that case, an increase in supply, holders, and transfers represents true adoptions of Kraken compared to short-term launch hype.

Still, growth in the total amount of Kraken-linked stakes will show if the integration leads to greater involvement by Hyperliquid in its broader ecosystem.

Whale locks up 1.89M HYPE

Beyond Kraken’s larger hype support, whale 0x8e48 shows large investor conviction. The whale purchased an additional 116,427 HYPE tokens for approximately $9.91 million before transferring all the funds to staking.

This brings the total held HYPE tokens in 0x8e48’s wallets to 1.89 million HYPE tokens worth about $159 million at roughly $84 per token in 8 months.

Furthermore, by staking all the HYPE tokens, 0x8e48 effectively removed them from availability on the open market.

If demand were to increase in the future, there would be less supply of available tokens and potentially greater opportunities for upward movement in price. Still, despite that, a single account cannot influence the market.

If the account were to unstake some or all of its tokens, that would indicate that the long-term confidence that 0x8e48 has in Hype may be waning.

HYPE outflows challenge institutional demand

While the whale kept adding HYPE, ETF flows showed whether regulated investors were following with similar demand too. The funds now hold $464.29 million in net assets.

Total inflows remain near $338 million, showing most ETF capital has stayed invested through recent price swings.

Hence, this $5.29 million outflow, entirely from Bitwise’s BHYP fund, occurred after the late August HYPE rally. Simply, this indicates that some investors may have taken their profits near highs.

However, even though there was a sizeable amount of money withdrawn from the funds, they still maintain almost a historical high level of capital. Therefore, it does not appear to be immediately concerning.

Final Summary

  • Hyperliquid’s demand strengthened through kHYPE utility and a whale’s fully staked 1.89 million-token position.
  • HYPE ETF assets remain near $464 million, although further outflows could weaken broader institutional demand.
