AAVE technical analysis: Can bulls repeat past victories?

While artificial intelligence (AI) tokens and memecoins have led this year, decentralized finance (DeFi) tokens have not been left behind. The Aave price prediction for 2024 sheds light on its past trajectory while paving the way for future potential.

At the outset, the token struggled under seller dominance, as evidenced by a swift rejection at $80. This precipitated continuous declines, pushing it to the lowest support at $53 by mid-August. 

Nonetheless, the bullish rally in late 2023 successfully established the prior resistance as a support level by late October. Carrying the uptrend, the price repeatedly tested the $112 resistance between mid-December and mid-January.

Yet, the bulls’ attempts failed, with the asset dropping but not to previous lows. The buying pressure began to build up again in February, painting the chart green. Besides the broader optimism in the market, AMBCrypto reported important developments for AAVE coinciding with this rally. There was a significant surge in network activity and revenue growth.
 

Thus, the price reached the $130 resistance in March. This barrier was tested for over a month. Nevertheless, as the entire market succumbed to selling pressure, so did AAVE. A substantial drop caused the price to fall back to $80 in early April.
 

Interestingly, on May 1, Aave Labs announced plans to launch Aave V4 by 2030. This new iteration will feature a unified cross-chain liquidity layer (CCLL) to consolidate liquidity from multiple networks into a single protocol. Additionally, the development and adoption of Real World Assets (RWAs) represent another significant advancement in this upcoming version.

Building on this hype, a substantial pump later in May allowed the bulls to retest $112. However, consecutive red candles erased these gains, as AAVE returned to $80 by mid-June. This was succeeded by another recovery attempt, which has been facing consistent downward pressure since. The DeFi token was trading at $83 at the time of writing. 

Aave v4 is currently in an advanced research phase. The development will proceed according to the planned timeline. Furthermore, on July 2,  Aave's decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) introduced its GHO stablecoin on the Arbitrum (ARB) blockchain, marking a significant step in its cross-chain expansion efforts. Over time, Aave's DAO aims to deploy the GHO stablecoin across various networks.

These developments can likely have a lasting impact on the price’s prospects, sparking long-term optimism. A prolonged bull run would necessitate overcoming the $112 resistance, likely putting $130 as the next target. Persistent rallies can lead AAVE to trade as high as $314 within 2024. However, the token can likely experience a pullback at $270.
 

Considering the bearish scenarios, the current support level was a focal point for market players. If the increased selling pressure causes this level to fail, AAVE can drop to $63. Notably, a break below this mark will effectively mark a significant valuation loss as the price finds support at $53.

AAVE's 2024 roadmap: Key indicators to watch and trade

• The trading volume demonstrated a consistent relationship with the price. Increased volumes acted as a validation of the price rallies. Nevertheless, the late May recovery was not supported by a substantial uptick in volume as it remained on the lower side, signaling investor caution.
• The On-Balance Volume (OBV) dipped at the outset and remained relatively flat between mid-August and October. This was followed by another much stronger ascension.
• From November to January, the indicator stabilized again before climbing until mid-March. After that, the OBV reversed its trajectory, reaching 44.851 million at the time of the analysis. This reflected a resurgence of distribution.
• The Directional Movement Index (DMI) analysis revealed that the ADX line was initially positioned at the lowest. Between mid-August and mid-September, the -DI line moved over the +DI line.
• Meanwhile, the +DI began to ascend in September, with the ADX line following in mid-month. The latter surpassed the -DI and +DI lines by late October and early December, respectively, while the -DI continued to decline.
• These movements reversed in March as the -DI started to rise while the other two lines descended. This culminated in the -DI line moving above the +DI between early April and mid-May, albeit with a brief drop in between.
• Furthermore, by mid-June, it had overtaken both the lines. At the time of the analysis, the +DI line moved on top again. The latest reported values were: ADX at 19.5808, +DI at 20.9868, and -DI at 20.3310. The proximity of these values pointed to a weak, bullish resurgence whose sustainability is yet to be verified.
