Pi Network launched on the 14th of March, 2019 (Pi Day), by a team of Stanford graduates led by Nicolas Kokkalis and Chengdiao Fan. The project was introduced with a clear objective to make cryptocurrency mining accessible to everyday users through mobile devices.

At the time, dominant networks like Bitcoin required expensive hardware and consumed significant energy, effectively excluding a large portion of the global population.

PI positioned itself as an alternative by allowing users to “mine” coins through a smartphone app without draining battery life or requiring intensive computing power. In practice, the concept focused less on traditional mining and more on user participation and network growth.

Pi Network [PI] has since evolved through several development stages.

Although the PI token was introduced at launch, it was not initially traded on open markets. When the network went live in March 2019, users could begin earning PI through mobile mining. At this stage, the token existed only within the app, with no blockchain infrastructure or external transfer capability, as the primary focus remained on user acquisition and ecosystem expansion.

Between 2020 and 2021, the network transitioned into its testnet phase, introducing a functional blockchain environment. During this period, nodes were deployed and decentralized operations were tested using the Stellar Consensus Protocol. Despite users accumulating PI, the token still lacked market value or exchange listings, as activity remained within a controlled environment.

The move to an enclosed mainnet in December 2021 marked a significant milestone, as PI became a live on-chain asset. Users were able to migrate their balances to the blockchain after completing KYC verification, and early ecosystem applications began supporting transactions within the network.

However, the mainnet remained restricted, preventing interaction with external wallets or exchanges. This effectively limited the token’s liquidity and tradability.

In February 2025, PI saw widespread listings across several major cryptocurrency exchanges, including OKX, Bitget, CoinEx, MEXC, and Gate.io. These listings marked the first instance of broader market exposure for the token. Some platforms also introduced yield opportunities for holders, particularly on exchanges like Bitget and Gate.io.

In terms of tokenomics, PI has a maximum supply of 100 billion tokens.

However, the circulating supply is currently estimated at approximately 9.81 billion PI. This relatively low circulating supply suggests that additional tokens may enter the market over time, potentially increasing inflationary pressure and influencing price dynamics.

Short-Term Pi Network Price Targets

Jul 23, 2026 $0.09 -2.17%

Jul 27, 2026 $0.09 -6.38%
Jul 28, 2026 $0.09 -7.40%

In the short term, price direction depended on spot and derivatives activity. Spot Exchange Netflows remained a key metric. Sustained inflows signaled selling pressure, while outflows pointed to accumulation. Current conditions leaned toward inflows dominating. Funding Rates offered further insight. If they remained negative, it would confirm short dominance and increase the risk of a breakdown below the $0.13 all-time low.

The long-term outlook remained pressured, driven by token supply dynamics. Only about 10% of total supply was in circulation. Future unlocks could introduce sustained sell pressure. Without strong demand or clear utility growth, this imbalance may limit upside. Monthly price action reinforced this trend. Outflows dominated across multiple periods, with limited inflows to absorb supply. If this continued, downside pressure could persist.

2025 $3 $0

PI’s largest rally occurred in February 2025 after major exchange listings. Price surged 544%, rising from $0.50 to $3.22. That rally reversed quickly. Between March and April 2025, PI fell 83% to around $0.40. A brief rebound in May saw a 191% gain, offering short-lived relief. The broader trend remained negative. Over the next seven months, PI declined another 77%. Since then, price moved sideways into 2026, with no clear breakout in either direction.

Technical Analysis

The market outlook remained weak, with price action showing limited momentum across both short and long timeframes.

Source: TradingView

On the weekly chart, PI traded within a descending channel, reinforcing the prevailing bearish structure. A breakout above the upper boundary was needed to invalidate this trend. However, recent candles stayed weak, showing no sustained bullish strength.

Momentum indicators offered mixed signals. The Aroon Indicator showed Aroon Up at 85% and Aroon Down at 50%, indicating buyers were present but lacked consistency.

The Accumulation/Distribution (A/D) line pointed to mild accumulation, with around 5 million PI added to wallets. Even so, this remained shallow and reflected cautious positioning near historical lows.

In the short term, the price approached a key resistance zone marked by repeated rejections. A break below the diagonal support trendline could accelerate losses and push PI toward its all-time low.

The MACD on the daily chart aligned with this view. It reflected bearish momentum, confirming that sellers controlled the short-term trend.

Overall, the market structure suggested bears retained control, especially on lower timeframes.

How to Read Pi Network Charts and Predict Price Movements?

Most traders use candlestick charts, as they provide more information than a simple line chart. Traders can view candlesticks that represent the price action of Pi Network with different granularity – for example, you could choose a 5-minute candlestick chart for extremely short-term price action or choose a weekly candlestick chart to identify long-term trends. 1-hour, 4-hour, and 1-day candlestick charts are among the most popular.

Let’s use a 1-hour candlestick chart as an example of how this type of price chart gives us information about opening and closing prices. The chart is divided into “candles” that give us information about Pi Network’s price action in 1-hour chunks. Each candlestick will display the asset’s opening price, closing price, as well as the highest and lowest prices reached within that period.

Pi Network Price Prediction Indicators

Moving averages are among the most popular Pi Network price prediction tools. As the name suggests, a moving average provides the average closing price over a selected time frame, which is divided into a number of periods of the same length. For example, a 12-day simple moving average is calculated by summing the closing prices over the last 12 days and dividing the result by 12.

In addition to the simple moving average (SMA), traders also use another type of moving average called the exponential moving average (EMA). The EMA gives more weight to recent prices, and therefore reacts more quickly to changes in market conditions.

What Affects the Price of Pi Network?

Just like with any other asset, the price action of Pi Network is driven by supply and demand. These dynamics can be influenced by fundamental events such as block reward halvings, hard forks, or new protocol updates. Regulations, adoption by companies and governments, cryptocurrency exchange hacks, and other real-world events can also affect market sentiment.

Technical indicators such as moving averages, RSI, and trading volume are also used by traders to anticipate price movements and identify potential trend reversals.
