XLM technical analysis: Struggle intensifies for market control

While many cryptocurrencies recorded massive gains in the early 2024 bull run, XLM underperformed. Thus, mapping the past trajectory offers the base for the Stellar price prediction for 2024 and beyond.

On the higher time frame, the asset predominantly moved sideways. The previous rejection at the highest yearly resistance of $0.141 pulled the price below the midline of $0.118 in mid-September. By October, XLM returned to the lower range limit at $0.105.
 

The broader market rally elevated the asset over the midline by the end of October. Between November and January, bulls held on to this level. Yet, a breakdown compromised it in late January, highlighting the tug-of-war between the bulls and bears.

Only towards the end of February did a substantial pump push the price over this level. This surge could be attributed to the Protocol 20 upgrade. The upgrade initiated a phased rollout to enhance the payments network by adding Ethereum (ETH)-style smart contracts through the Soroban project.
 

Following this, the asset revisited its peak resistance. Nevertheless, the rally lacked sufficient momentum to sustain itself. A substantial drop in early April forced the price back to $0.105. This critical mark could not stand amid the sector-wide bear run.
 

Thus, the 11-month support was decisively lost to sellers in June. The bloodshed continued throughout the month. In between, the network’s Protocol 21 went live on the mainnet. This upgrade activated five new Core Advancement Proposals (CAPs). 

By July, the asset’s declines were halted at the lowest support of $0.083. This level acted as a springboard, allowing XLM to recover with the broader market. Consequently, it tested $0.105 in the second week. 

Nonetheless, the asset was rejected by the end of the month. After a brief struggle, the price stabilized on the $0.093 support in mid-August. AMBCrypto revealed that the gains were partly due to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) settlement with XRP, noting the similarities between the assets in facilitating cross-border payments.

By the end of the month, AMBCrypto noticed a double-top pattern on XLM’s daily chart. This hinted at a further downside for the asset. Consequently, it dropped below $0.093 in September.

Regardless, the bullish resilience remained undeterred, and they reclaimed this level by the second week. At the time of writing, the altcoin exchanged hands at $0.095. 

How high/low can XLM go in 2024?

The current resistance stands as a critical barrier for a bullish reversal. Flipping this would allow the bulls to extend the rally to the highest resistance. A continued bullish reign will likely face a setback at $0.160. The price has stayed below this level for over two years.

Therefore, overcoming this would necessitate a significant mobilization from buyers. Meanwhile, a stronger downtrend can return the asset to its lowest chart floor. The next downside targets could be projected at $0.071 and $0.064.

• XLM's trading volume reflected the price’s movements and experienced brief spikes with the rallies. It surged substantially as the price touched its peak resistance but declined, mirroring the downtrend. 
• The Relative Strength Index (RSI) fluctuated around the 50 line, maintaining average values between 40 and 60. It dropped below 50 between mid-September and mid-October, January and mid-February, and decisively in April. 
• At press time, the indicator registered at 45.71. This uptick from previous lows indicated a decrease in bearish pressure.
• The On-Balance Volume (OBV) stagnated from the outset, experiencing minor spikes and troughs. It resumed its upward trajectory in late January. 
• However, the OBV reversed its course again by late March. The indicator recovered slightly to end the period with 48.799 billion, reflecting an uptick in buying pressure.
