XLM technical analysis: Asset’s not-so-stellar performance repels investors

While many cryptocurrencies recorded massive gains in the 2024 bull run, XLM underperformed. Thus, mapping the past trajectory offers the base for the Stellar price prediction for 2024 and beyond.

Initially, the asset encountered a substantial surge, driving it to reach the highest resistance at $0.160. This marked the beginning of range-bound price action for the asset. Yet, this victory was short-lived as the price was rejected.

This was a classic indicator of an overvalued market, prompting a correction. Meanwhile, the bulls could not halt further declines at the immediate support level of $0.133, which had become a price barrier by mid-August. 
 

A subsequent attempt to test this support-turned-resistance faced substantial pushback, pushing XLM below the midline of $0.114 in late September. Thus, the price fell back to the lower limit of the range at $0.101 in October. Nonetheless, it reclaimed the former by month’s end.

Between November and January, bulls repeatedly exerted pressure, testing $0.133. Yet, a breakdown compromised the midline in late January, highlighting the tug-of-war between the bulls and bears.

Only towards the end of February did a substantial pump push the price over this level. This surge could be attributed to the Protocol 20 upgrade. The upgrade initiated a phased rollout to enhance the payments network by adding Ethereum (ETH)-style smart contracts through the Soroban project.

Following this, the asset revisited its highest chart resistance. Nevertheless, the rally lacked sufficient momentum to sustain itself. A substantial drop in early April forced the price back to $0.101, where a shorter two-month range formed between this level and $0.114.
 

A bearish breakdown depreciated the price below the former critical mark, breaking the longer 11-month range. The bloodshed continued throughout June. In between, the network’s Protocol 21 went live on the mainnet. This upgrade activated five new Core Advancement Proposals (CAPs). 

By July, the asset’s declines were halted at the lowest support of $0.083. This level acted as a springboard, allowing XLM to recover with the broader market. Consequently, it flipped $0.101 bullishly by mid-month. At the time of writing, the altcoin exchanged hands at $0.102.

A decisive trend reversal would necessitate reinstating $0.114 as support. It could serve as a base for a renewed rally to surge past the next upcoming resistance. Meanwhile, the price has stayed below $0.160 for over two years. 

Overcoming this can trigger a lasting uptrend. Nonetheless, that would necessitate a significant mobilization from buyers. This can potentially push XLM toward the $0.206 mark. Continuing bearish efforts can return the asset to its lowest chart floor. The next downside targets could be projected at $0.071 and $0.064.

Drawing on predictive models, the analysis forecasts that XLM could trade at an average price exceeding $1 by 2027, escalating to approximately $100 by 2033. This projection highlights the potential long-term growth trajectory for Stellar Lumens, given its ability to navigate through market fluctuations and maintain critical support levels.

XLM's 2024 roadmap: Key indicators to watch and trade

• XLM's trading volume surged as the price touched its peak resistance but declined, mirroring the price. It settled lower until a recovery in late February, which again faded with the downturn.
• The Relative Strength Index (RSI) ascended into overbought territory in mid-July. After peaking later in the month, the indicator continued to decline.
• It struggled to maintain values over 50 and dropped below this line frequently between mid-September and mid-October, January and mid-February, and April. At press time, it registered at 46.45. This uptick from previous lows indicated a diminishing bearish presence.
• The On-Balance Volume (OBV) experienced a sharp ascent in July. Following this, it stagnated, experiencing minor spikes and troughs. The OBV resumed its upward trajectory in late January. 
• However, it reversed its course again by late March. The indicator recovered slightly to end the period with 48.555 billion, reflecting a resurgence of slight buying pressure.
