Ripple’s AI push gives XRPL a new payment lane – Is its ‘agentic era’ here?

XRPL’s AI integration could turn agent activity into a new source of network demand.

XRPL’s agentic era is taking shape as Ripple brings XRP and RLUSD into AI payments

The integration of AI into crypto has been a defining theme of the 2026 cycle.

Ripple looks set to capitalize on this momentum. So far, several Layer 1 networks have been integrating AI agent models on their blockchain to facilitate smoother transactions.

In this vein, it seems that Ripple is now looking to position XRPL to tap into this growing AI-agent economy.

In a recent update, Ripple has expanded its XRPL developer kit to support Stripe and Tempo’s Machine Payments Protocol. This feature allows AI agents to pay for data, computing, and other services.

Additionally, it supports the Open Wallet Standard, which enables wallets to operate on multiple blockchain networks.

In short, Ripple [XRP] is making XRPL more ready for AI.

The platform already supports x402. The latest update adds more support for AI agents, enabling them to pay for data, computing, and other online services. This facilitates the creation of systems where AI agents can make payments and interact with blockchain networks automatically.

With the increasing number of tasks that AI agents can perform, XRPL could see an increase in use for automated payments.

In this regard, Ripple’s decision to integrate XRP and RLUSD with Stripe and Tempo’s payment infrastructure appears to be a strategic bet.

This, in turn, helps explain why the markets have reacted so favorably to the news. The critical question, however, is whether activity on the blockchain will begin to reflect the aforementioned narrative, and if so, will this serve as the catalyst for the start of XRPL’s “agentic era”?

XRPL AI push meets strong on-chain demand

Ripple’s global expansion is another important theme of the 2026 cycle.

In this regard, note that Russia’s largest exchange, the Moscow Exchange, is set to offer perpetual futures on an XRP index on the 22nd. This gives traders another avenue for XRP exposure, which seems to be in demand given that Franklin Templeton’s XRP ETF saw clients scoop up $3.5 million worth of XRP recently.

In addition, the on-chain demand is strong as well.

As can be seen on the chart below, XRPL’s DEX volume has averaged over $400 million across all three quarters of this year, keeping the network inside the top 25 by DEX volume. It means that the activity on the XRPL blockchain is already supported by robust on-chain demand. In this context, the newest AI integration might be another utility layer on top of that.

The timing of this move is also important.

Since the CLARITY Act has affected the crypto market, the partnership could bolster investor confidence in XRPL by showcasing a more compelling AI use case on the network.

Moreover, XRPL recently recorded more than 1.2 million AI-related transactions, suggesting that the network’s AI activity is already gaining traction.

Coupled with the strong on-chain demand, increased institutional positioning, and fresh market attention after the announcement, the “agentic era” of XRPL looks like it is gaining a stronger foundation.

Final Summary

  • Ripple is bringing AI payments to XRPL, giving XRP and RLUSD more use cases.
  • Strong on-chain activity and ETF demand could support XRPL’s AI growth.
