Solana vs Bitcoin – Analyst forecasts higher growth potential for SOL!

SOL underperformed BTC in Q1 2025, despite analysts' bullish outlook.

Solana vs Bitcoin - Analyst forecasts higher growth potential for SOL!
  • Analyst believes SOL could offer more upside than BTC in the next 12 months
  • Bitcoin outperformed Solana by over 50% in Q1 2025

Solana [SOL] could beat Bitcoin [BTC] in investor returns over the next 12 months. This was the bold prediction made by Mert Mumtaz, founder of Solana-focused developer platform Helius Labs. In fact, Mumtaz claimed that SOL had more upside potential than BTC. He stated

“SOL is the most obvious crypto bet…BTC has a good case too, but just basic math on market cap and upside.”

On key catalysts for the aforementioned SOL upside, Mumtaz added,

“It is the most battle-tested with the highest concentration of talent with a balance of retail and institutional and has easily the biggest improvements in crypto history to come in 2025 (doubled blockspace, several new validator clients, new consensus, etc).”

In fact, he had previously predicted that SOL might hit $500 in 2025.

Can SOL outshine BTC, ETH?

Last month, MultiCoin Capital partner Kyle Samani doubled his bet on SOL and said it would outperform Ethereum and Bitcoin.

“Latency, throughput, and gas costs—Solana has it all covered. While Bitcoin and Ethereum are still playing the scarcity game, Solana is directly embracing the future!”

Samani was convinced that Solana could beat Ethereum in the DeFi and payments sectors and eventually, become a trillion-dollar asset.

Even so, at the time of writing, SOL was struggling to hold above $100 amid macro uncertainty. If Samani and Mumtaz’s projections are validated, the current value would be a great discount.

Another bullish catalyst would be U.S Spot SOL ETF approval. Worth noting, however, that a similar update didn’t boost ETH much. Hence, it remains to be seen whether SOL will outperform ETH if it’s approved.

For their part, market participants aren’t optimistic about SOL crossing $300 in 2025. In fact, according to predictions site Polymarket, bettors have priced only a 17% chance of SOL hitting a new ATH before 2026.

For Bitcoin, the most volume is parked at the $110k target, suggesting that most participants expect BTC to reclaim its ATH in 2025. Simply put, speculators may be more bullish on BTC than SOL in 2025.

However, the SOL/BTC ratio, which tracks SOL’s relative price performance to BTC, has been heading towards a key pivotal and likely support. A rebound could tip SOL to regain over 50% of lost ground against BTC.
