XLM technical analysis: Bullish resilience put to the test

While many cryptocurrencies have recorded massive gains, XLM has underperformed in the current bull run. Mapping the past trajectory offers the base for Stellar price prediction for 2024 and beyond.

At the outset, the asset encountered a downward spiral, leading the cryptocurrency to retreat to a low support level of $0.078 in June. This phase of decline was not unique to XLM but highlighted its struggle within the broader market.

Nevertheless, the narrative took a positive turn in mid-June as XLM began to rally. After reclaiming $0.095, the asset surged in mid-July to reach a new high resistance at $0.158. Yet, this victory was short-lived as the price faced rejection at this newly established peak. 

This was a classic indicator of an overvalued market, prompting a correction. The bulls were unable to halt further declines at the immediate support level of $0.133, turning it into a price barrier by mid-August.

A subsequent attempt to test this support-turned-resistance faced substantial pushback, pushing XLM to fall back to $0.104 in October. Between November and January, bulls repeatedly exerted pressure, testing $0.133. Yet, another rejection followed.

It was only towards the end of February that a substantial pump pushed the price over this level. This surge could be attributed to the Protocol 20 upgrade. This upgrade initiated a phased rollout to enhance the payments network by adding Ethereum (ETH)-style smart contracts through the Soroban project.

Following this, the asset revisited its highest chart resistance. Nevertheless, the rally lacked sufficient momentum to stand above $0.133. A substantial drop reinstated this level as resistance in early April, as the price fell back to $0.104. At the time of writing, the altcoin exchanged hands at $0.106.

On June 18, 2024, validators of the Stellar public network will vote on a significant upgrade to Protocol 21. If approved, this upgrade will activate five new Core Advancement Proposals (CAPs) on Stellar’s mainnet. The Stellar testnet has already transitioned to Protocol 21 on May 14, marking a crucial step toward this roadmap. 

Going forward, the price has stayed below $0.158 for nearly two years. Overcoming this can trigger a lasting breakout rally, possibly fueled by new developments. Nonetheless, that would necessitate a significant mobilization from buyers. This can potentially push XLM toward the $0.290 mark. In a highly optimistic scenario, the price could even surge to $0.401, though this level may also serve as a juncture for potential rejection.

Conversely, a victory for bearish forces, leading to a breach of the current support, could see XLM retreat to the $0.095 level. A break below this can cause XLM to return to its lowest support. 

Drawing on predictive models, the analysis forecasts that XLM could trade at an average price of $1 by 2027, escalating to approximately $160 by 2033. This projection not only reflects the expected volatility and challenges in the cryptocurrency market but also highlights the potential long-term growth trajectory for Stellar Lumens, given its ability to navigate through market fluctuations and maintain critical support levels.  

XLM's 2024 roadmap: Key indicators to watch and trade

• XLM's trading volume remained lackluster up until July. Coinciding with the price touching its peak resistance, significant volume surges became evident.
• However, as the price ebbed, the trading volume mirrored this decline, settling into a more subdued state. Another phase of recovery was observed towards the end of February, aligning with increasing prices. This was again dampened by the consistent price decline.
• The Relative Strength Index (RSI) moved past the 50 line in late June. By mid-July, it had ascended into overbought territory. After going as high as 72.98 later in the month, the indicator continued to decline and dropped below the 50 line frequently between mid-September and mid-October, between January and mid-February, and finally, in April. At press time, it registered as 42.48. This indicated a prominent bearish presence. 
• The On-Balance Volume (OBV) experienced a sharp ascent in July. Following this rise, the indicator stagnated, experiencing minor spikes and troughs. In January, the OBV resumed its upward trajectory, ending the period with 48.78 billion. This was a downtick from its March highs, reflecting a weakening buying pressure.
