Binance blocks transfers with HTX, EXMO and 14 other crypto platforms

Binance has introduced staged transfer restrictions covering 16 crypto platforms linked to recent sanctions against Iran and Russia.

Binance blocks transfers with HTX, EXMO and 14 other crypto platforms

Binance has said it will restrict transactions to 16 crypto or payment platforms after recent sanctions on Iranian or Russian-related services.

The imposed restrictions will only be imposed gradually, with five providers already affected, but HTX, EXMO, and a further nine are currently not affected until August 23, from when transfers into those organizations will be blocked.

Binance set out to carry out the restrictions in three phases

Binance announced these measures on August 14 because of these new regulatory requirements.

The restrictions started on August 7,  and it included Shelbit and Aban Tether Exchange, which are two Iran-based crypto platforms targeted by the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control [OFAC].

According to OFAC, these exchanges helped move assets across different platforms linked to sanctions evasion efforts and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Then from August 13, Binance restricted transactions involving A7 Nigeria, A7 Africa, and PilotFinance from August 13, and from August 23, Binance will stop processing transfers involving Rapira, Aifory Pro, ABCeX, WhiteBird, NoOnecrypto, Tradex, Monease, BitPapa, Exnode, HTX, and EXMO.

What will happen to Binance account holders?

The announcement does not mean Binance will remove HTX, EXMO or the assets available on those exchanges, but it will block transactions involving them once the restrictions start.

Any wallets that attempt these transactions may be subject to further internal compliance checks, and accounts can be temporarily suspended as exchanges investigate.

Final Summary

  • Binance is restricting transactions involving 16 crypto and payment platforms in three stages.
  • Until the restrictions begin on August 23, Binance clients may transfer crypto to or from the remaining platforms.
