IRYS crypto jumps nearly 580% as traders betting against it lose $21M
A rapid climb from around two cents to above fourteen cents left bearish IRYS traders facing substantial forced closures.
Irys [IRYS] surged nearly 580% over 24 hours on October 23, reaching around $0.144. A look at its daily chart showed that it recorded a session high near the $0.157 price area before it eased toward $0.142.
The rally coincided with heavy losses for traders betting on a price decline. Data showed that there were around $21.4 million in short liquidations, but the available data does not show what started the surge or how much forced buying contributed.
The rally accelerated well beyond four cents
IRYS began its daily session at around $0.0206. At the time of this writing, it was trading at almost 7x that level.
A look at the chart shows how the move developed. An initially gradual rise gathered pace after it passed the $0.04 price level, and a more positive move followed, taking the price toward $0.13.
It saw a brief pullback that interrupted that climb before buyers were then able to push the price higher again.

At the time of this writing, the daily chart showed a gain of roughly 592% with trading still ongoing.
Bets against IRYS took most of the liquidation losses
CoinMarketCap data showed around $24.2 million in total liquidations over 24 hours. Around $21.4 million came from shorts, compared with roughly $2.8 million from positions betting on higher prices.
Liquidations happen when an exchange forcibly closes a leveraged trade because the trader can no longer cover its losses.
Closing a short can involve buying back the asset or contract, potentially adding to upward pressure. But these totals cannot show how much of IRYS’s rally came from that process.
The data showed that outstanding futures positions also reached about $1.22 billion. That figure does not only mean that fresh cash is entering; the sharp price it saw raises the value.
What can the chart tell us now?
The session high near $0.157 provides an immediate reference for another advance. Below the latest price, the intraday pause around the $0.115–$0.13 price area offers an area to watch if selling returns, and sellers decide they want to take gains.
But that pause seen on the chart is too recent to call dependable support. But if it holds there through repeated pullbacks, it would mean that buyers are accepting the higher prices.
What is being seen is an interesting repricing and active trading, but where IRYS will settle once the initial surge slows remains to be seen.
Final Summary
- IRYS gained nearly 580% over 24 hours, moving far beyond the brief’s earlier $0.04 level.
- Short liquidations reached around $21.4 million, but the rally’s initial trigger is not known yet.
