Kraken outage affects Spot and derivatives trading – Here’s what happened
This disruption comes amid a turbulent October for crypto exchanges.
Kraken, one of the world’s major cryptocurrency exchanges, experienced a temporary technical disruption on the 30th of October 2026, affecting both spot and derivatives trading.
According to Kraken’s status dashboard, the issue began at 02:42 UTC and prevented some users from connecting to the platform and successfully submitting orders.
What happened to Kraken?
The disruption affected Kraken’s website and mobile application, along with its REST, WebSocket, and FIX APIs. For those unaware, these interfaces allow retail traders, institutional clients, and automated trading systems to access market data, connect to the exchange, and execute trades.
In simple words, this disruption might have caused difficulties for users trying to log in to their accounts, access trading services, place buy or sell orders, or execute trades through automated systems.
However, Kraken confirmed that the incident was resolved at 03:42 UTC, approximately one hour after it was first reported. But what is more important here is that this disruption did not indicate a security breach or loss of customer funds. In fact, it was more of a connectivity and order-processing issue.
Kraken’s demand remains uninterrupted
This follows the exchange witnessing growing demand for round-the-clock trading through its xStocks platform, which offers tokenized versions of traditional stocks.

This is because now more than 50% of xStocks trading volume now takes place outside conventional stock market hours. In other words, investors are increasingly looking for the flexibility to trade beyond standard exchange timings.
Additionally, Kraken has also expanded its xStocks offerings to over 1,000 listings since last week, broadening access to tokenized equities for millions of users worldwide.
Notably, AMBCrypto’s recent report suggested that Kraken was in a spotlight back on the 24th of October. On that day, Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi had apologized for emails sent to Monero [XMR] buyers requesting personal information, including employment details, proof of income, bank statements, and intended use of withdrawn funds.
Crypto hacks are on the rise
Like Kraken, Binance too announced plans to resume withdrawals within 48 hours following a temporary suspension for security checks after a reported $6.3 billion hack.
Still, according to DeFiLlama data, the cryptocurrency industry has witnessed a sharp rise in security incidents in 2026, with 322 confirmed hacks recorded so far, already more than double the total reported in 2025.

In fact, threats also remained active recently, with 12 confirmed hacks reported in just the past seven days, highlighting the persistent vulnerability of the crypto ecosystem to cyberattacks.

Final Summary
- The disruption affected Kraken’s website and mobile application, along with its REST, WebSocket, and FIX APIs.
- Kraken confirmed that the incident was resolved at 03:42 UTC, approximately one hour after it was first reported.
