DYDX technical analysis: Downtrend drags asset to new lows
The migration of ETHDYDX (dYdX v3’s governance token) to the native chain token (DYDX) has garnered substantial hype among investors. Therefore, an analysis of the weekly chart provides a comprehensive understanding of its price movements and potential future trends, laying the groundwork for the dYdX price prediction for 2024 and beyond.
The initial months were marked by stagnant price movement, as the token stabilized at $1.8. A bullish rally in late October infused optimism into the market, driving the asset to reach its highest resistance of $4.0 in mid-November.
Yet, it could not move past $3.4. The level was tested repeatedly until early December, resulting in a rejection. AMBCrypto highlighted that the platform unblocked 150 million DYDX tokens worth $465 million on December 1, 2023. Consequently, exchange inflows spiked, increasing the selling pressure.
By January 2024, the declines were contained at $2.3. After that, the uptrend resumed, gaining further momentum by the following month. This culminated in DYDX reclaiming $3.4 by the end of February to retest the peak resistance in March.
Concurrently, the token peaked at an all-time high (ATH) of $4.5. Due to investors’ profit-taking, the market turned red from mid-month. A series of declines returned the token to $1.8 by mid-April. The bearish stronghold did not let this base sustain as it was reinstated as a resistance by mid-June.
Subsequently, the price fell to $1.1. A report by AMBCrypto disclosed that dYdX suffered a security breach in late July. This breach occurred not long after Bloomberg indicated that dYdX v3 was on the market for sale. Furthermore, the report pointed out that the price could drop below its historical low on the weekly chart.
This materialized as DYDX hit a new all-time low (ATL) on August 5. This effectively made $0.8 the lowest established support on the higher time frame. After a failed test of $1.1 in mid-month, the price pulled back to the previous level and has since maintained proximity to it. At the time of writing, it traded at $0.9.
If the downtrend continues, the price can likely fall below its current base to make new ATLs. Notwithstanding, a resurgence of buying pressure would allow for a recovery, with the immediate target being $1.1. A move over $1.8 would turn the trend bullish, opening the way to retesting $3.4.
