Stellar joins MetaMask: What the wallet update brings to XLM users

Stellar goes live in MetaMask Mobile and Extension, allowing users to manage XLM, send payments and swap across supported networks.

Stellar joins MetaMask: What the wallet update brings to XLM users

Stellar has now become a default network in MetaMask’s mobile app and browser extension!

This is according to an announcement on October 29 at the Meridian conference in Lisbon, and it says the integration allows users to manage XLM and other supported Stellar assets directly through the wallet.

For those using MetaMask already, Stellar is now part of an account they already use. MetaMask says accounts now include a Stellar address that is generated from their existing recovery phrase. What this does is it reduces the setup that is needed to be done to access the network.

What users can do today

According to MetaMask’s announcement, the integration is live across both Mobile and Extension.

Users can hold, send, and receive XLM alongside assets on other supported blockchains. They can also manage other tokens issued on Stellar and swap between Stellar and supported networks.

Existing Stellar users have an option to import a wallet using its recovery phrase.

The release says Stellar addresses are available automatically within existing MetaMask accounts.

Payments are central to the expansion

MetaMask said the addition was part of its expansion beyond Ethereum-based networks.

Stellar’s focus on payments fits that direction. The network supports uses including remittances, commerce, and public-sector payments, according to the Stellar Development Foundation.

For those already holding assets in MetaMask, Stellar will become available within the same app.

XLM gains another access point

XLM is included among the assets users can manage through the integration. The announcement expands wallet access, while subsequent transaction activity will help show how people use the new connection.

The announcement didn’t show the number of users activating Stellar accounts through MetaMask, funds transferred, or swaps completed since launch.

For now, what can be confirmed is the availability of Stellar across MetaMask’s two main wallet interfaces, with sending, receiving, and asset-management functions live from launch.

There was no real reaction from XLM to the new development. At the time of this writing, it was trading at around $0.167, down by over 1.45%. The decline broke the positive trend it had seen in the previous three days.

Final Summary

  • MetaMask added Stellar as a default network in its mobile app and browser extension.
  • Users can manage XLM and supported Stellar tokens, with addresses linked to their existing recovery phrase.
