NEAR technical analysis: Bulls and bears at standoff

NEAR has greatly benefitted from an increased interest in the fusion of artificial intelligence (AI) and cryptocurrency. This dynamism lays the groundwork for an intriguing Near Protocol price prediction in 2024. 
 

The price chart for NEAR revealed a period of struggle early on. Substantial selling pressure forced the price to stay at its lowest support level of $1.0. After a brief dip below this yearly low, mid-October witnessed a concerted effort by the bulls to rally.
 

This ascension culminated in the price moving over $3.6 in mid-December. A pullback followed the rally. Nevertheless, further declines were curbed at $2.7 in late January. This was indicative of a market correction rather than the inception of another downtrend.

From February, the price resumed its northbound journey along with the broader market. This momentum turned $3.6 into support by the end of the month. Furthermore, significant surges in March pushed the altcoin to the highest resistance at $8.3.
 

Nonetheless, another corrective drop materialized mid-month, pushing the price down to $6.4. April brought more declines as the entire market crashed, taking NEAR down with it. After finding a temporary footing at $5.4, buyers regained momentum mid-month and set forth on another rally, flipping $6.4 in late April.

Another pump in mid-May elevated the asset to retest the peak yearly resistance. AMBCrypto's report showed that during this time, NEAR surpassed Cardano (ADA) in Total Value Locked (TVL) and overall activity despite experiencing lower decentralized exchange (DEX) volumes on its network.

However, history repeated itself, and liquidations ensued. The presence of red candles dragged the asset below $5.4 in mid-June. 
 

While the tests of this level continued into the next month, AMBCrypto highlighted that NEAR prices saw a subsequent uptick due to increased transactions and address activities. Furthermore, in a notable development, NEAR marked a significant milestone in real-world assets (RWA) after Valour launched its first exchange-traded product (ETP).

These positive catalysts garnered substantial hype for the asset, allowing it to reclaim $5.4 while concurrently testing $6.4 in mid-July. Nonetheless, this rise was unsustainable, and the former was reinstated as resistance by the end of the month. As the market progressed into August, NEAR returned to $3.6.

Subsequent attempts to recover failed amid the broader downtrend. By September, NEAR was back at the previous lows. At press time, the token was valued at $4.2. 

How high/low can NEAR go in 2024?

AMBCrypto’s examination of the daily chart revealed that NEAR traded within a descending channel, indicating bearish momentum. If the bulls leave the current support unchecked, the downward momentum could extend to $2.7 or lower, thus erasing all 2024 gains. 
 

However, given the recent price increase, AMBCrypto took a closer look at its metrics, which registered positive upticks. This hinted at an upcoming price appreciation, leading NEAR to the $15 mark in the upcoming months. In other news, an analyst also predicted the $15 price target if the present support zones are maintained.
 

Going forward, flipping $6.4 would give the bulls the upper hand. The momentum supports an outlook where reclaiming $8.3 appears within reach and suggests the potential for the altcoin to ascend as high as $10.0 and beyond.

The long-term outlook for NEAR contradicts this prediction, with prediction models forecasting slow but continued growth. By 2031, the token is projected to trade at an average price exceeding $12, with expectations for this figure to increase by 2035, reaching more than $20.

NEAR's 2024 roadmap: Key indicators to watch and trade

• The Bollinger Bands expanded after the 20-week Moving Average (MA) became support in late October, and the price reached the upper band. The expansion was further amplified by repeated movements above the latter in December and March, indicating overbought conditions.
• A correction followed, driving the candles below the upper band in April and even below the 20 MA in June, reflecting substantial selling pressure.
• NEAR's trading volume improved with the price rally in October. Following a decline after January's setback, the volume rose again in February. 
• Yet, it dipped once more from mid-March. Despite a price increase in early Q2 2024, trading volume stayed low, indicating continued investor caution.
• The Directional Movement Index (DMI) highlighted seller dominance until Q4 2023, with the -DI line positioned on top. In mid-October, the +DI and ADX lines began ascending, with the former moving above the -DI by the end of October and later surpassing it by November.
• The ADX line crossed over the +DI line from January to February and reclaimed this position in mid-March. Following this, both lines dropped from Q2 2024, while the -DI rose to overtake the +DI by mid-June and the ADX by August.
• As of the latest data, the ADX stood at 23.6549, +DI at 18.5503, and -DI at 24.9725. This highlighted a strong bearish trend.
