YFI technical analysis: Asset hits yearly lows

YFI’s ups and downs have led to its widespread interest. The price movements present a compelling narrative over the past year, laying a foundation for an insightful yearn.finance price prediction for 2024.
 

Starting in September, the asset challenged the $5,606 resistance, which held its ground for over a month. However, the narrative took a turn in mid-October when a bullish rally sought to rejuvenate YFI's market position. This momentum continued into November, propelling the altcoin above key resistance levels to test the highest chart barrier at $10,012 mid-month.  

The period marked a significant surge in the token's value, with an almost 170% increase in price. However, it crashed. A detailed examination of the futures data revealed a 40% rise in open interest. This hinted at the opening of short positions as a possible catalyst for the movement. 

As reported by CoinMarketCap, the sell-off wiped $300 million in market capitalization. This significant downturn sparked a wave of fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) within the cryptocurrency community.

Despite this, bulls attempted to maintain footing at $7,232 in the new year. After a brief dip below this level towards the end of January, a subsequent rally was observed the next month. This drove the asset to peak resistance once more in March. However, like the previous attempt, YFI proceeded to move southwards.

The downtrend intensified in April when a substantial drop reinstated $7,232 as resistance. Subsequently, the price consolidated, vying to break past this resistance while holding its base at $6,532.

After nearly two months, the market’s remaining buying strength drained as a bearish breakdown pulled the price to $5,606 in mid-June. This level became a constant target for seller’s attacks. It finally gave in after preventing declines for over a month.

Consequently, by August, the price dropped to its yearly low support of $4,784. The broader market recovery pushed the price to test $5,606 mid-month. However, it returned to the former support by September. At the time of writing, YFI was trading at $4,825. 

If sellers flip the current base, the asset might retest support at $4,715. A break below that level can even drive the price to the lowest possible support, around $4,600.

Contrarily, if the bulls enter the market again, flipping the immediate resistance would be necessary to retrace previous highs. Sustained buying pressure can elevate the price to retest $6,532. Moreover, overcoming the next resistance would tip the scales in buyers’ favor. 

Looking ahead, long-term projections from predictive models suggest a challenging but bright future for YFI. The average price is forecasted to be more than $10,000 by 2029. Even more optimistic is the projection for 2035, where YFI's price is anticipated to surge beyond $30,000.

YFI's 2024 roadmap: Key indicators to watch and trade

• The trading volume remained predominantly low. A significant increase was observed in mid-November, followed by another modest uptick from mid-February. These quickly subsided, reflecting a general disinterest from investors.
• An observation of the Directional Movement Index (DMI) revealed that the -DI line initially remained dominant, with the +DI line positioned at the lowest. The dynamics reversed in Q4 2023. 
• Furthermore, the ADX line claimed the top spot by January. However, the -DI line rose in March, diverging from the other lines. 
• It overtook the +DI line between late April and mid-May. Following a brief drop, it decisively moved over the +DI and ADX lines in early June. At the time of writing, the values were the -DI line at 24.5443,  the ADX line at 19.5521, and the +DI line at 16.0654. This pointed to a dominant bearish sentiment.
• The 50 and 20-week Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs) acted as price barriers until November. As YFI dropped after rejection at the peak chart resistance, the candles moved below the 50 EMA in January and briefly below the 20 EMA later. 
• However, the price reclaimed its position over both EMAs by mid-February. A golden cross formed in March, but a subsequent rejection again placed the EMAs above the price. Moreover, a death cross in late April validated the downtrend.
